Hello!

Here at Learn and Laugh Alexandria we promote healthy eating and the love of food.
Our mealtimes are a beautiful chance to sit down with the children and babies to simply enjoy! We
enjoy their company as we have meaningful conversations with the children. We enjoy the lovely
pauses mealtimes provide throughout our energetic days. We especially enjoy the delicious and
healthy food our cook, Norma, makes for all of us.

Even beyond our personal beliefs, there is an expectation from The Early Years Learning
Framework that educators promote lifelong healthy eating and wellbeing. It states that “Early
childhood settings provide many opportunities for children to experience a range of healthy foods
and to learn about food choices from educators and other children […] Children take increasing
responsibility for their own health and physical wellbeing” (BELONGING, BEING and BECOMING The
Early Years Learning Framework for Australia). These important teachings are interwoven
throughout our days and extend beyond mealtimes. It can be seen though the cooking experiences
we have with the children and through the resources we provide for both open ended or dramatic
play.

Many of us at Learn and Laugh Alexandria have participated in “Munch & Move” training.
Munch and Move is a NSW Health initiative that supports the healthy development of
children birth to 5 years by promoting physical activity, healthy eating and reduced small screen time
[…] The training aims to assist educators to implement a fun, play-based approach to supporting
healthy eating and physical activity habits in young children. (https://www.healthykids.nsw.gov.au) .
The training and resources we use form Munch and Move help to guide our teaching and our cook’s
daily menu options. As we empower the children to make their own healthy food choices, we also
provide weekly nutritious dinner options for families and monthly donation dinners for the Will2Live
program. Please feel free to contact us if you would like any further information on our programs or recommendations and resources.
