Ni Hao! This year we were accepted into the ELLA program and we are loving learning all about the
Chinese culture and the Mandarin language.
Our Pre-schoolers have access to several apps with fun interactive games to support learning and
collaboration. The ELLA program (Early Learning Languages Australia) has been a welcome addition
to our preschool classroom.
So far children have been introduced to the Polyglots, a group of characters who feature in the apps. Already some children have favourite Characters! We have learned colours, numbers and some simple phrases so far, it is very exciting to see how quickly everyone is developing their skills and knowledge.
Each ELLA app is underpinned by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the Australian
Curriculum. The ELLA apps capture educational reporting data for each child that can be used to
improve learning, engage with families and community and assist children’s transition to school.
With the introduction of this program we have been able to enhance our use of digital technologies
and to reflect on how we support the optimal use of digital technologies in association with relationships, Health and wellbeing, citizenship, play and pedagogy.
